Apple Cinnamon Scent

If you are looking for a quick and cheap method of adding a wonderful food scent to your home, but do not have time or inclination to bake a batch of something scrumptious, try this.

Take apple peels, cores, bruises, spoiled apples, or anything you have leftover after preparing apples place in a saucepan and cover with water. (Theoretically, you could just chop up a whole apple, but that would defeat our frugal purpose now wouldn’t it?)

Add some cinnamon. Cinnamon sticks would be ideal here, but all I had was ground cinnamon, so that is what I used. If you are trying to do frugal and fast, it is essential to learn to substitute with things you have on hand.

Bring to a boil, then turn down to a simmer. Leave the lid off the pan and enjoy the fragrance. Keep a casual eye on it from time to time to add water as it boils away.

Variations:

If you like other spices you could substitute or add:

Cloves
Allspice
Nutmeg
Or any type of baking spice
