Oven Fries

These are simple oven fries for when you want that delicious, simple taste of homemade fries, but do not want to heat up the fryer or are a wimp like me and really, really do not like dealing with vats of extremely hot oil.

Ingredients:

Baking/Russet Potatoes (other types will work, but this will give you the common French Fry texture. You will need 1-2 potatoes per person.
Oil – Something that can take high heat
Salt
Spices – Optional - I have used such things as: seasoned salt, pepper, garlic, parsley, and hot pepper.

Step By Step Instructions and Photos:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Peel and rinse potatoes. Dry with paper towels. Slice into French Fry shaped strips and blot dry with paper towels again.

The idea here is to get the raw fries dry before coating with oil so the oil will stick properly, so get them as dry as you can.

Pour oil into a bowl large enough to hold all of your Fries. You will need about 1 tablespoon of oil per potato. Add 2 shakes of salt per potato and stir. If you want to add other spices, now would be the time. Even if you just add a little Pepper or Paprika, that would color the oil so you will be able to tell when the fries are fully coated with oil.

Add the sliced and dried potatoes and stir/toss to coat with oil.

Lay out on a greased (I cannot stress this enough – grease you cookie sheet in addition to oiling the fries) cookie sheet.

Bake for 15 minutes. Take them out and turn them over. Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
